TEAMS REVVING UP AND READY TO GO

Sepang, June 3, 2010: The teams competing in the 2010 Sepang 1000km Endurance Race are ready to battle their way towards the championship title.
Here are excerpts from the pre-race press interview which was held at the Sepang International Circuit:

Keifli Othman – Team JC Racing (Class 2)
“My team couldn’t finish the race last year because the car had a little bit of an electrical problem. But for this year’s race, we have made our preparations early. We hope to win the race this year. We have a strong team and we’re very confident that we will do well in the S1K race this year.”

James Mitchell - Team Televas Racing (Class 2).
“Our team is basically just a bunch of friends racing together and we’re just hoping to finish the race. This is the first year we’re driving together as team, so it is a development year and we hope to finish well. Next year we’ll aim for the championship title.

Nurul Alis Akhbar - Team Televas Racing (Class 2)
This year we’re just going to enjoy ourselves racing together as a team.  It’s more like just having fun and this year is more like an experiment. We didn’t do much preparation as our car had arrived quite late from Hong Kong and we don’t dare play around with it so much.

Faidzil Alang – FA Racing (Class 2)
I target to win every time I race. I believe in an endurance race, we need the whole team’s cooperation; the crew, the manager and the driver needs to work together to win the race.
Last year we had a fuel pump problem, a small problem but as you know racing, a small problem can have bigger implications.

Putri Ayu Jasmine Abdul Hamid – Red Bull Racing (Class 1)
Our team is a combination of Malaysian and Bruneian drivers. Basically I’ve shared my experiences with them; what needs to be done about the cars, about the race. We taught the Bruineian girls at the track. We are aiming to do better than last year, maybe even the sixth position.

Melline Jaini – Red Bull Racing (Class 1)
It’s my first time being in a race. My expectation is to finish the race. It’s been a steep learning curve for myself. From the start, I’ve always been realistic about it so my aim is to just finish the race. Being among these seasoned drivers who know their cars, who knows the track and who have a history in motorsports, I guess I try to look at it positively and think that it is a privilege to be racing on the same fields as them.

Farriz Fauzy- Mofaz Racing (Class 2) (Winner of Class 2 in S1K 2009)
It doesn’t matter whatever team that is competing with us. We are not concentrating on others. I mean we are here to race so we focus on our car and our team. We are going to defend our title. What matters is to concentrate on my car and I don’t care who is competing with me.
My focus is to win, getting the overall champion title is going to be an added bonus.  Our preparation is quite general, we’re trying to find some room to improve and avoid the silly mistakes we did last year.
Last year we won Class 2, so this year we’re aiming for the title of Overall Champion. Preparations this year is quite different, and our strategy this year is definitely different than the one we had last year.  We were just behind about 49 seconds behind the Overall Champion.
Getting the Overall Champion title is going to be a bit difficult, but we’ll see. Nest year, we hope to compete in Class One.
