Close to 60,000 spectators came to watch the penultimate round of MotoGP

It was a spectacular race with 59,206 spectators came to watch the 2009 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix on race day Sunday 25th which ended with the crowning of the 2009 MotoGP champion, Valentino Rossi.

With another round before the end of the season, Rossi have sealed the championship with 286 points the result of 12 podiums of the 18 rounds season.

“It was a great event with a total of 102, 255 fans came to Sepang International Circuit (SIC) over the three day period (Friday to Sunday),” said SIC CEO Razlan Razali.

 He added that it almost doubled from their prediction and was really delighted with the spectator’s enthusiasm to sit at the grandstands and watch the race despite the rain that started right after the 250cc race ended.

After the crowning of Rossi at the podium event more than 3000 spectators stayed over to watch the a concert by Malaysia’s queen of rock - Ella, top Indonesian band Nidji, Jinbara, Hujan on and Rob Caudill who is known to be the best Rod Stewart impersonator in the world.

Part of the main attraction of the Malaysian MotoGP is the two Malaysian riders participating in the 125cc class as Wildcard entries.

Elly Idzlianizar Ilias and Md Zulfahmi Khairuddin riding under the AirAsia 125cc Team Malaysia did well in their debut in the 125cc MotoGP race.

Elly the main rider managed to finished 16 out of 33 riders, just a spot away from getting a point in the championship while Fahmi finished in 20th place.
