Boy Wong On Track For Double Celebration At A1GP In Sepang
A1GP MALAYSIA 2008/2009 - SUPPORT RACES
Entering its final round and last two races, Malaysian top driver Boy Wong Yew Choong has an opportunity to celebrate a glorious weekend at the A1GP Malaysia at Sepang Circuit this Sunday with a double Malaysian Super Series (MSS) crown.

While the Supersaloon Championship overall title is already in the bag, Boy had already has one hand on the Supersixteen crown as he takes an 11-point advantage over his closest rival, Ramesh Subramaniam.

There would be a maximum of 40 points for grabs - 20 each for Race 1 on Saturday and 20 for Race 2 on Sunday, and Ramesh, now with 81 against Boy's 110, would need to win both races to have any chances of winning his first ever MSS crown.

Representing Type R Racing Team, Boy had been quiet since the team's disastrous outing at the 2008 Merdeka Millennium Endurance race (MME) last August and speculations are rife that the team was facing problems in preparing the race cars for Boy and the other team members - Soh Kee Koon and team leader Tek Kean Kang.

Kee Koon, winner of the Supersaloon title in 2006, is currently third in the overall standings for cars below 2000cc with 52 points - 17 points behind Eddie Lew, who lost the overall crown at Round 4 in July.

"I guess we will just have to wait and see. I cannot confirm anything as yet," said Boy, who would be celebrating his third Supersixteen crown in a row if he wins this year's battle of the 1600cc machines.

Incorporated as part of the support races programme for the A1GP Malaysia this weekend, the MSS also features the Supercar Championship where championship leader Wira Dani Daim who is also looking for his first ever MSS title.

With 127 points after four rounds, Wira and his Fugazi Racing Team, however, would need to fend off the challenge of Singaporean Mok Weng Sun, who would be boosted by his sensational victory at this year's MME.

Defending champion Dilantha Malagamuwa of Sri Lanka, who is also bidding to win his third successive Supercar Championship, is third with 105 points and remains a serious threat to Wira Dani's championship ambitions.

Unlike the previous rounds, the three championships - Supercar, Supersaloon and Supersixteen Championship - will run together at the A1GP and using the full 5.543-km Sepang track.

The A1GP Malaysia race is promoted by Carbon Worldwide, which is also responsible for all the commercial arrangements for the event. SIC is responsible for the race management of the main race as well as the support races.
