Eddie Lew secured the 2007 Malaysian Super Series Supersaloon Championship after scoring a double victory at the A1GP Malaysia in Sepang today after closest rival Wong Yew Choong continued to be troubled by car problems for a second consecutive race; presenting the title to the JC Racing driver on a silver platter.
The battle for the Supercar title, however, would go into the final round next weekend despite Dilantha Malagamuwa scoring a double victory as Wira Dani Daim kept his own championship dreams alive with another second placing in Race 2.
“It’s simply amazing to win the MSS title again. Obviously, the credit should go to my team manager Jacky (Ng) and the JC Racing team crew for providing me a truly powerful and reliable machine,” said Eddy, winner of the 2003 Supersixteen title who hoped to defend the title next year.
After four rounds, Dilantha, whose experience included contesting in the Asian Touring Car Championship and the Japan GT Series, has 145 points with Wira, who collected 30 points over the weekend, garnering 132 points.
After a blown-up engine in yesterday’s Race 1, Boy efforts to challenge Eddie was prevented by a punctured tyre; forcing him to pit for a tyre change and eventually finishing in seventh place to take four points and taking his total haul to 99 points against Eddie’s unassailable 140 points.
With 120 points in the bag in the Supersixteen Championship, Boy, however, remained hot favourite to retain his title after closest rival Harry Chai failed in his mission for a double victory, finishing Race 2 today as he did in Race 1 yesterday in third position.
With a total of 84 points, Boy merely needs four more points in the final round to pip Harry where a maximum of 40 points would be up for grabs.
