Ahead of the Grand Prix on April 3-5, SIC has embarked on various programmes and activities to ensure the future generation is well aware of upcoming race weekend.
Counting down on the race weekend, SIC has allocated eight (8) slots for students for it's Fun Kart race against F1 Teams, GP2 Asia and Formula BMW Pacific drivers on April 2.
A total of 130 students from various colleges and universities around the nation have confirmed for the two day qualifying round.
The first qualifying will be held this Saturday (Mar 21) at the Sepang Go-Kart Circuit.
"SIC enters it's second decade of operation and we are adamant about ensuring the future generation is well educated about the motorsports world," said SIC media manager Irwan A. Rahman.
"To kick start another decade we firstly have provided an opportunity of a life time for students to race with their racing idols. Such a programme has not been made possible in the past and hopefully SIC will make this an annual if not a more frequent event," said Irwan, who added the second
qualifying session will be held on Mar 28.
Besides the fun kart race, SIC is also constantly hosting educational tours for primary and secondary school students as the circuit prepares for the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix.
"Preparing for the F1 race is a tough and detail operation and students are educated on how SIC handles these processes."
"It may look like a perfect picture come race day and we want to share with the students that a lot of personnel work tirelessly to ensure the Malaysian Grand Prix is a successful event as the whole world is watching. This is also another way we are taking F1 to schools," said Irwan.
On top of the activities, SIC will be giving discount up to 80 percent for students for this year's race.
The RM500 Citrine seats in the Mall Area (grandstand) which are along the back-straight will now be priced at RM100.
The Tower seats located at Turn 15, the final corner of the circuit, will also be priced at RM100 for students instead of the usual RM500.
For a cheaper option, the RM200 C-2 covered hill-stand area which overviews the back-half of the circuit is now priced at only RM50.
The special rate however only applies to those who bring along their student identification cars and can only be purchased SIC's official ticket counter at KL Sentral Kuala Lumpur or at the Flying Emporium at KLIA Domestic Arrival.
Tickets can also be purchased by visiting the SIC official website at www.sepangcircuit.com or by calling the ticket hotline on 03-87782222.
