Reigning constructors’ champions, Ferrari, are currently enduring their worst
start to a season since 1992 and are yet to score a point after two races. Now,
following a series of internal talks the Italian team have restructured their
technical line-up in an effort to boost their fortunes ahead of this weekend’s
Chinese Grand Prix.
As part of the reshuffle, technical director Aldo
Costa will head a new working group at Ferrari’s Maranello base, to examine the
F60’s on-track performances to find ways to accelerate its development. Costa
will work alongside team manager Luca Baldisserri, who will now take on a
factory-based role, while chief engineer Chris Dyer will assume Baldisserri’s
trackside responsibilities.
“The goal is to anticipate as much as
possible the introduction of new technologies to reduce the performance gap as
fast as possible, which, apart from the question of the diffuser, seems to be
there,” explained Ferrari on their official website.
“A working party
has been set up under the coordination of Aldo Costa, which will follow the
development programme at Maranello in close contact with the experience made on
the track: a crucial element of this group is Luca Baldisserri. The Scuderia
team manager will follow the single-seater’s development step by
step.”
Although it may be too soon for the reshuffle to have much of an
effect on the Shanghai race, Ferrari are keen to show they are already moving in
the right direction and will bring several updates to China, These will include
a modified front wing, which was evaluated by team tester Marc Gene at the
Vairano straight last week.
