After impressing last season, BMW Sauber are hopeful that 2008 could be the year they score their first Grand Prix victory. During the 2007 championship the German-Swiss squad rose dramatically through the ranks, enjoying two podium finishes and scoring 101 points.

Following McLaren’s exclusion, the team eventually finished second in the standings, behind world champions Ferrari. With both Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld retained to race next season, the team believe everything is in place for even greater success in the future.

“For 2008 we have set ourselves the target of closing the gap to the leading teams,” said BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen on the team’s official website. “In addition we intend scoring our first Grand Prix victory.”

The team’s challenger for the forthcoming season, the F1.08, will be unveiled in the German city of Munich on January 14, before making its track debut in Spain at the Valencia circuit a day later.
